Membership of DDEX
DDEX is a membership organisation. Membership is open to any business entity with an interest in digital media content. There are three tiers of membership; a limit up to 20 Charter Members, Full Members and Associate Members.
Membership Benefits
The benefits of membership include:
- Taking part in requirements gathering and prioritisation;
- Working on the development and drafting of DDEX standards; and
- Gaining a greater understanding of the specifications thus reducing implementation development costs.
Recent Changes
DDEX has recently introduced a new membership structure, which is aimed at accommodating further membership growth following recent increases in membership.
There are three main changes to the membership structure of DDEX:
- The membership fees for Full Members (formerly Contributing Members) will now be based on the annual revenue of the member. This revenue-based approach is better aligned to encourage more significant growth in membership, particularly of small and medium sized companies.
- There are improved benefits for those companies that will be Associate Members (formerly Participating Members) that will give them a better taste of the organisation's activities and hopefully encourage Full Membership.
- For the first time individuals will be able to become members of DDEX for just US$ 250 per annum.

The Charter Members of DDEX pay annual membership dues of US$ 25,000. Organisations become Charter Members by invitation of the Board of Directors and are entitled as a result to:
- Appoint one member to the Board of Directors;
- Attend and vote in Plenary Meetings;
- Attend and vote in each Working Group (whether physical or virtual);
- Attend and vote in Annual Meetings;
- Nominate their representatives as chairs of Working Groups;
- Access all DDEX documents, standards and email reflectors; and
- Comment on any Committee Drafts of the DDEX Standards.
The current Charter Members represented on the Board are Sony Music Entertainment, The Orchard, Warner Music Group, Universal Music Group, The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP), The Harry Fox Agency Inc. (HFA), Phonographic Performance Limited (PPL), PRS for Music, Sociedad General de Autores y Editores (SGAE), Société des Civile des Producteurs Phonographiques (SCPP), Société des des Auteurs, Compositeurs et Editeurs de Musique (SACEM), Apple Inc., Microgen Aptitude Limited, Nokia, Orange, RealNetworks Inc. and Telefónica Servicos de Música S.A.U.
Full Members are required to be a business entity or an individual with an interest in digital media content. Full Members pay annual membership dues determined by their past year's revenue as follows:

The benefits of Full Members are:
- Attend and vote in Plenary Meetings;
- Attend and vote in each Working Group (whether physical or virtual);
- Attend and vote in Annual Meetings;
- Nominate their representatives as chairs of Working Groups;
- Access all DDEX documents, standards and email reflectors; and
- Comment on any Committee Drafts of the DDEX Standards.
Associate Members are required to be a business entity with an interest in digital media content. Associate Members pay annual membership dues of US$ 2,500 and are entitled to:
- Receive a document setting out the Resolutions of any DDEX Plenary Meeting;
- Subscribe to the e-mail reflector of any DDEX technical working group but not to attend, participate in or vote at any DDEX technical working group meeting, whether physical or virtual;
- Attend and vote in Annual Meetings;
- Attend, as an observer, any one Plenary Meeting in any given membership year for up to three years from the date of becoming an Associate Member for a fee of US$ 500 per representative per Plenary Meeting attended (the fee shall be waived for the first year for members becoming Associate Members for the first time) and to be provided copies of the relevant technical documentation being discussed at each Plenary Meeting attended; and
- Comment on any Committee Drafts of the DDEX Standards.
